Stress-free Cookie Shopping

Some people just cant get enough of cookies, biscotti, muffins and other delicious, freshly baked goodies. If they cant have their fix at home of Moms chocolate cookies or lemon cranberry muffins, they would rush to the nearest bakery to get some, and hopefully share with friends and family back home. If they are lucky there would be a bakery right on the street where they live but if less lucky, they would have to go out further to find one that bakes their favorite chocolate chip brownies or scones, whichever they fancy at the moment.

In the old days, you would just have to sulk if Mom didnt bake your favorite baked goodies or if the local bakery didnt have them. Now you only have to start your computer, open your favorite browser and google cookies, muffins or any baked goodies you want and presto, you can order online and have a cookie or a basketful of muffins in no time. Of course you would have to wait a little, depending on the location of the bakery but the wait should just make those baked goodies more delectable when they arrive.

Ordering freshly baked goodies online gives you many advantages. You dont spend gas going to crowded malls and avoid dealing with uncooperative sales clerks. It is easier and thus less stressful. You will have many choices and the pictures in them are so nicely presented that you could almost smell their aroma and taste them. You could drool just seeing the pictures that you would want to quickly press the order button. Shopping for baked goodies to give as gifts to friends and family is so convenient if you do it online too. It is a novel and creative way to show how much you appreciate them during the holidays or any special occasion they may be celebrating.

Bakeries with online stores are very much aware of this trend and so to attract more customers, they send out emails and do extensive online marketing to promote their freshly baked products. They usually feature a baked goodie of the month, such as brownie-filled cookies, raspberry-filled cookies or maple walnut cookies. These are only some of the baked goodies you can find online ready for your orders. Ordering online may appear impersonal to some but you can actually personalize your order to make your baked goodies gifts appeal more to the recipient. You can ask the merchant to include playful messages, special phrases or blessings of your choice. This will truly make your gift a blessing to those who will receive it. Some people have even sent baked goodies to their friend and family stationed overseas. You can order cookies to be sent to your husband who is a soldier or sailor abroad serving the country. Cookies are durable and are able to survive the tumbles and shaking of being shipped. You know that such gifts will be appreciated and can certainly boost their morale, helping them endure the rigors of their stay wherever they are assigned, whether inland or out at sea.

How to Bring Freshly Baked Goodies to Your Loved Ones

But of course this shouldnt deter you from sending your freshly baked goodies to your loved ones from time to time, even as you know you would have to go through tremendous efforts to do so. But if it is absolutely necessary that you bring the freshly baked goodies yourself to your mothers, there here are some tips to pack them right so they arrive as fresh as the moment they came out of the oven and more importantly in one piece, and not crumbled into a thousand inedible pieces

Bake your brownies as chewy as you can and if possible, make them in one large piece instead of the usual individual small ones. Do not cut the brownies but leave them intact as they came out of the pan. Be careful when you get them out of the pan so they dont break. Wait for them to cool then wrap the brownies tightly using a plastic wrap. Avoid leaving air trapped inside the bag to prevent spoilage. Finally put the plastic wrapped baked goodies in a Ziplock bag.

For cookies, bake them three to five minutes less than what the recipe says. Wait until they become completely cool before handling them. Wrap each cookie with saran or plastic wrap and then in a single layer, place them inside a Ziplock gab. If you have to put several layers of cookies, place crumpled wax paper in between the layers.

If youre travelling by plane, place your baked goodies in a can that has an easy open lid so security in the airport can quickly open it and look inside if needed. Place crumpled newspaper or wax paper in between the layers inside the can. This will help keep the brownies and cookies in place and minimize movement that could ruin them. The best way to ensure they arrive intact is to carry them with you whenever possible.

How to Keep Fresh Your Baked Goodies Longer

Nothing beats the taste of freshly baked goodies such as cookies, brownies or bread. However, you may not always be able to enjoy them as fresh as they came out of the oven every time you want to. Bakeries would do everything to assure you that the baked goods you get from them are oven-fresh but it happens that they will still go stale and lose their delicious taste once they are exposed to air for some time. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to revive the fresh taste of your cookies and breads at home.

To keep bread, cakes or cookies fresh, add half an apple to the container where you want to store them. The moisture present in the apple will help maintain the moisture in your favorite baked goods, so that they are kept soft and nice looking for a longer time.

Cakes and bread can be frozen wrapped in a cloth towel. The towel extracts the moisture from the baked goodies thus allowing them to be kept longer in the freezer. Never use paper towel as it will only disintegrate and not do its work. If freezer space doesnt allow you to wrap the cake or bread fully, covering them with a cloth towel will work as well.

You can also try wrapping cake in saran and freezing it. Wait until it is frozen solid and then put the frozen cake in a zip lock bag. Depending on the kitchen temperature, some people have had success in keeping cake at room temperature for several days by simply using a piece of plastic to wrap the cake, followed by a foil wrap. This only works where the temperature is not over 75 degrees F. If the temperature exceeds this range, store the cake in the fridge instead.

To return dry, crumbling cookies to their original condition, put them on a cookie sheet, wet a thin dish towel and wring it thoroughly. Place it over the cookies and bake them for 5 minutes in a 350 degrees oven. You can also layer the cookies in a 9×13 plastic container. Place a wax paper over the first layer and then put more cookies on top. On the final layer, place another piece of wax paper and a piece of fresh bread. Cover the container and keep in a cool, dry place. Replace the bread when it turns stale or hard. Never place the fresh piece of bread directly on your cookies to prevent them from becoming very soft or mushy. If you baked the cookies yourself, cool them completely before storing them in this manner.

You can store fresh muffins in the freezer individually in a plastic bag. In the night before, take out of the freezer the quantity you want for breakfast. Thaw them overnight. Warm them in an oven toaster in the morning. The length of time will depend on how crispy you want them to come out. You can also microwave them for ten seconds immediately before eating them.
