Babka Recipe

Ingredients:
1 cake yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c. warm
milk
1 lb.
flour, sifted (3 1/4 c.)
1 tsp.
salt
1/4 c.
sugar
2 eggs
plus 2 egg yolks
1/2 c.
sour cream
5 tbsp.
melted butter
1 c.
golden raisins
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm milk. Make a well in flour. Add eggs and yolks, sour cream, and yeast mixture. Knead until it blisters. Add melted butter and knead in. Let raise; punch down and let raise 1/2 hour. Cut into 3 pieces. Pull each piece until 12 inches. Roll raisins in each piece and twist the roll loosely. Braid and form circle. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Also: If wanted, put on candied cherries and pecans; brush top with some egg white.

Charlie Brown Pudding Recipe

Ingredients:
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. turbinado sugar
1 tbsp. carob powder
1/4 c. milk
1 tbsp. margarine or butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. chopped nuts
TOPPING:
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp. carob powder
2/3 c. boiling water
Directions:
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and carob powder. Melt butter over low heat in a small saucepan. Add to flour mixture along with the milk and vanilla. Mix, just enough to combine ingredients. Fold in nuts. Pour into baking dish, spreading evenly. For topping, combine the brown sugar and carob powder. Sprinkle over the dough. DO NOT STIR IN! Gently pour the boiling water over the top. DO NOT STIR IN! Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

German Sweet Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients:
1 pkg. (4 oz.) Baker’s German’s sweet
chocolate
1/2 c.
boiling water
2 c.
sugar
1 c.
butter or margarine
4 egg
yolks
1 tsp.
vanilla
2 1/2
c. sifted Swans Down Cake Flour
1 tsp.
baking soda
1/2
tsp. salt
1 c.
buttermilk
4 egg
whites, stiffly beaten
Directions:
Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition, until smooth. Fold in beaten whites. Pour into three 8 or 9 inch layer pans, lined on bottoms with paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool. Frost as desired.
